Direct Services offered at UITCT

The Urban Inter-Tribal Center of Texas provides primary care medical services and basic dental services. If you are an enrolled member of a federally-recognized tribe (or if under 18 and a descendant of an enrolled member), then you are eligible to receive any services directly offered at the UITCT facilities: primary care clinic, dental clinic, and in-house pharmacy.

Services NOT offered at UITCT

UITCT does NOT receive funding to pay for: referrals to specialist doctors, X-rays and other imaging, diagnostic tests, urgent care visits, or emergency room visits. We are also unable to pay for certain medications that are not stocked in our pharmacy that have to be filled at an outside pharmacy.

Direct Services at Outside Tribal and IHS Facilities

If you are an enrolled member of a federally-recognized tribe (or if under 18 and a descendant of an enrolled member), then you are eligible to receive certain services that are categorized as "Direct Services" at outside Tribal Facilities and Indian Health Service hospitals.

A Direct Service is a specialist doctor that is directly employed in-house by the specific Tribal or IHS facility. Texas residents are eligible to be evaluated by specialty doctors that are categorized as Direct Services at outside Tribal and IHS facilities. UITCT doctors are able to refer you to these specialists, however very few specialty doctors fall in the direct service category.

The Urban Inter-Tribal Center of Texas can refer you to the following Tribal and Indian Health Service facilities for the indicated Direct Service specialist type:

Contract Health Services

If the specialty type is not offered in-house at the Tribal or IHS facility, and the patient has to be referred to an outside facility or a specialty doctor has to be contracted to visit the Tribal or IHS facility once or twice per month - this specialty type and services are categorized as "Contract Health" or "Purchased Referred Care". In order to qualify for Contract Health or Purchased Referred Care funding, a patient must live within the Tribal or IHS facility's service area. Residents of Texas fall outside any Tribal or IHS service areas, and are not eligible for Contract Health or Purchased Referred Care services.

Health Coverage Navigation

If the specialist type needed is something that we are unable to refer to a Tribal or Indian Health Service facility in Oklahoma, you will need health insurance or other health coverage. The Urban Inter-Tribal Center of Texas has staff members that can assist you with understanding your health coverage options. Learn more here: Get Health Coverage
