For help scheduling a mammogram, please call Sharon Cornwell at 214-941-1050 ext. 259, Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
Assistance for Uninsured Women for Mammograms
If you are between the ages of 40 and 64 and are low-income or don’t have insurance, we can assist with enrollment in state programs, if eligible, or link you to other mammogram assistance locally.
Why getting a mammogram is important
Compared with other ethnic/racial groups in the United States, American Indian/Alaskan Native women have the lowest incidence of breast cancer but the lowest breast cancer survival rate so finding a lump early is very important. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the outcome. A mammogram can save your life, it is the best form of early detection. A mammogram can detect a lump up to two years before it can be felt, it can find a lump the size of the smallest bead.
Community Outreach & Education
In our group education sessions we focus on educating to increase the understanding of prevention and early detection of breast cancer for American Indian/Alaskan Native women. We give the information needed to increase knowledge, skill and comfort in breast awareness. UITCT staff host booths at local events – look for us at American Indian Heritage Day, UT Arlington Pow-wow, and Santa Fe Days. If you would be interested in having us attend an event or community meeting, please contact Sharon Cornwell at 214-941-1050 ext. 259. Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
